4-week Developmental Trauma & Self Compassion series.

Developmental trauma happens in the context of the caring relationship, when our nervous systems are being developed as young children. If we have a dysregulated or mis-attuned parent, we develop a dysregulated nervous system and some limiting beliefs.  Research shows 55% of humans have experienced developmental trauma (sometimes called Complex PTSD) - not having our emotional needs met because of a distracted, harsh, busy, disconnected or ill parents.

By learning about trauma, it widens the field of awareness of how that may be impacting behavior,  and increases our capacity to hold possibility with compassion. We become better equipped to hold space and to care - to decrease our propensity to take things personally.

In this class, you will learn about developmental trauma and how it appears in adult life depending on what may have happened in childhood, and together we will practice ways to connect and support ourselves with self compassion and somatic awareness.  See more information here.

9-week Sattvic Self Realization Course. A Book Practice Series with "Relationships That Work"

In a loving space, discover empathic transformative communication with yourself and others as a way to keep your heart clear to engage more fully in all relationships. Learn and practice communication that plants seeds in our heart, and others that pull weeds from our heart that might block energy in relationships.  We co-read "Relationships That Work: The Power of Conscious Living" by David B. Wolf to guide us in consciously communicating our truth and creating space for others to feel loved and to discover themselves.

Self Compassion Breaks, Online

These are powerful, connecting online lunch-hour self-compassion breaks 4 times a month between November 2020 and January 2021, donation based.

Do you struggle with self judgement and self criticism? Are you sending yourself messages that you are not enough? Maybe you are holding yourself back from what you really want in your life?

Science suggests that constant self-judgment shuts down the learning centers of the brain, robbing us of the resources we need to learn and grow. Research suggests that an attitude of kindness strengthens our ability to learn from our mistakes, which can expand our perspective and make us more creative and resourceful.

November 2020 to August 2021. See event details here.

Nonviolent Communication for Close Relationships, 3-weeks Online

In this course we will explore how to be more truly interdependent with people in our lives. As we grow up in this society, we may unconsciously - or consciously - be battling with ourselves and the people around us. In this course you will at once be connecting more to your internal habits of blame and assigning responsibility... and taking back your power in consciousness and in language engaged with people in your life such that you create space for them to respond more authentically because it is a space where both of your needs matter

Jan 4, 11 and 18, 2021.  See event details here

Nonviolent Communication Basics and Beyond Basics, Online drop-in classes

As part of the Gainesville Nonviolent Communication team, I facilitate some of the semi-monthly two hour workshops. The Basics is "designed to introduce people to some core principles and basic tools of Nonviolent Communication with space to experience and practice in bite size chunks." The Beyond Basics delves more deeply into a topic of NVC (like labels, decolonizing systemic racism, blame, empathic listening).

See the GNVC Events page

Empathic Listening for Peacebuilding & Better Relationships

I was inspired to offer this to our community to create space for each other to express our pain, fear and anxiety, and to generate more civil exchange between opposing views.  This communication workshop will help you be with other people in a more authentic way in which you can generate more peace and authentic connection.
I offered this 7 or 8 times in the Gainesville Florida community between 2015 and 2018

Nonviolent Communication 9-week series

Often, we can speak in ways that can actually perpetuate conflict and pain. Nonviolent Communication (NVC) partners practical skills with a powerful consciousness that acknowledges the feelings and needs that all humans have. We are able to hear our OWN needs and feelings as well as those of others. NVC fosters respect, empathy and a mutual desire to give from the heart. In this 9-week course, you will have the opportunity to experience a new way of relating and a safe space to practice NVC with two expert communication coaches. We will read Marshall Rosenberg's book and create skill and realization.

I offered this 3 times between 2019 and 2020 with Eze Sanchez.

Developmental Trauma Webinar

In this webinar we explore Developmental Trauma and how dis-regulated caregiving can create disregulated nervous systems that might still be with us today, and how we can come out of unconscious patterns. We will practice some somatic mindfulness to help us connect to our experience, and to our bodies in times of pain and reactivity. By generating deeper awareness, we can release ourselves from patterns of reactivity and of blaming the past that may also be there. We will explore how we can take full responsibility for our experiences and for how we respond to current and past situations.

I offered this in 2019.

Forest Bathing Experience

As a small group, we will enter the forest with a slow sense of quiet discovery and wonder. Drawing from the work of M. Amos Clifford, you will be invited to BE in the forest with embodied awareness, quiet and openness to receive wisdom with the forest. Expect a few readings, some mindful walking, sitting in quiet and a sharing circle at the endSimply being present, with all of our senses, in a forest or other wild area, can produce mental, emotional, and physical health benefits. It is a simple, accessible antidote to disconnection that can bring spontaneous awareness and healing.  I have offered this four times between 2019 and 2020. See event here.
